Barry Schuler

Chairman, Managing Director, DFJ Growth Funds

An acclaimed Internet pioneer, Barry Schuler has developed emerging technologies into successful enterprises for the last 25 years. A serial entrepreneur, his career spans breakthroughs in early video games, computer graphics, interactive media, e-commerce, consumerization of the Internet and most recently ultrafast lasers. Schuler spent eight years with AOL, where he was the architect of the consumer experience that brought the Internet into the lives of more than 25 million households. After performing in several roles of increasing responsibility during AOL’s explosive growth, Schuler ultimately served as Chairman and CEO during the height of the company’s reach and influence. Prior to AOL, Schuler was CEO and co-founder of multimedia development firm Medior Inc. until its acquisition by AOL in 1995. Under his leadership, Medior pioneered the use of interactive multimedia for applications such as electronic commerce, entertainment, and corporate information systems. The company designed the America Online interface that ultimately made AOL leading consumer online service. Schuler is a graduate of Rutgers University and a member of the Rutgers Hall of Distinguished Alumni.

Sen. Bill Bradley

Managing Director, Allen & Company

Senator William W. Bradley is a Managing Director of Allen & Company LLC.  From 2001-2004, he acted as chief outside advisor to McKinsey & Company’s nonprofit practice.  He was a Senior Advisor and Vice Chairman of the International Council of JP Morgan & Co., Inc. from 1997-1999.  During that time, he also worked as an essayist for CBS evening news, a visiting professor at Stanford University, Notre Dame University and the University of Maryland.  Senator Bradley served in the U.S. Senate from 1979 – 1997 representing the state of New Jersey.  In 2000, he was a candidate for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States.  Prior to serving in the Senate, he was an Olympic gold medalist in 1964 and a professional basketball player with the New York Knicks from 1967 – 1977 during which time they won 2 NBA championships.  Senator Bradley holds a BA degree in American History from Princeton University and an MA degree from Oxford University where he was a Rhodes Scholar.  He has authored six books on American politics, culture and economy, including the recently published, “The New American Story”.

John H. N. Fisher

Managing Director, Draper Fisher Jurvetson

John H. N. Fisher is a Managing Director of Draper Fisher Jurvetson, with 27 years of venture capital investing experience. On behalf of Draper Fisher Jurvetson, John has served on the boards of many companies, both private and public. At present, his board positions include SolarCity, Good Technology, CafeMom, SCIenergy, Pulsepoint, and Raydiance. In addition, John serves on the Investment Committees of DFJ Growth Fund (Menlo Park), DFJ Esprit Ventures (London), DFJ ePlanet Ventures (global) and DFJ New England (Boston). Previously, John worked at ABS Ventures, where he focused on enterprise software and services. In addition to his venture capital experience, John gained further investment industry experience at Alex. Brown & Sons and Bank of America. In the non-profit realm, John serves as a Trustee of the California Academy of Sciences, and he is on the board of Common Sense Media. John is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Business School.

Ambassador Robert S. Gelbard

Chairman, Washington Global Partners

Robert S. Gelbard is an international business consultant specializing in crisis management, risk analysis and project development and implementation. He is also a consultant to the Institute for Defense Analyses, the Department of Defense’s primary think tank, and a member of Senior Defense Advisory Boards. During his prior career in the United States Foreign Service, he held numerous senior foreign policy positions, including as the President’s Special Representative for the Balkans, Ambassador to Indonesia and Bolivia, Assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement, and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Inter -American Affairs. His other Foreign Service assignments included Porto Alegre, Brazil, Manila, Republic of the Philippines and Paris, France. Gelbard also was a staff member of the President’s Council of Economic Advisors. Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Gelbard was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Bolivia. During his career in the Foreign Service, Gelbard received the Presidential Meritorious Award, the State Department’s Distinguished Service Award, the United States Coast Guard’s Distinguished Public Service Award and numerous other commendations. He was awarded the Condor of the Andes, Order of the Grand Cross, Bolivia’s highest decoration for a foreign citizen, and the Medalha do Gaucho, by the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. Ambassador Gelbard is a member of the Boards of Directors of L-1 Identity Solutions, Inc., Raydiance, Inc., and P.T. Toba Bara (Indonesia) and the Boards of Advisors of Good Technology, Inc. and Atlas International Investments. He is also a Senior Advisor to the Board of Kreab Gavin Anderson (London/Stockholm), and S/A Comunicacao (Sao Paulo). His non-profit activities include the Board of Trustees of Colby College, the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the Atlantic Council, the Boards of Directors of Phelps Stokes and the US-Serbia Business Council, Chairman of the Board of Advisors of the International Institute for Security and Cooperation (Bulgaria) and the Board of Advisors of the University of Notre Dame’s Center for Civil and Human Rights. Gelbard is a graduate of Colby College and has a Masters degree from Harvard University. He holds honorary LL.D. degrees from Villanova University Law School and from Colby College for his work on peacekeeping and international democracy-building. Gelbard was a member of the Obama-Biden Presidential National Security Transition Team and a foreign policy advisor to President Barack Obama during his election campaign.

Jay Chong

Senior Director, Samsung Ventures

Jay joined Samsung Ventures, the investment arm of Samsung Group, in 2010 after spending 10 years at Intel in various marketing and business development roles. He launched multiple mobility products such as the second generation Centrino, Pentium M, and Pentium 4-M and also managed APAC PC accounts and executive relationships. During his final three years at Intel he was on an assignment in Shanghai, China, leading Intel’s corporate strategy of incubating local PC OEMs and ODMs. He built a business development team and provided marketing, engineering, and strategy supports to help the local PC OEMs and ODMs to grow their core competencies. Before Intel he lead a sales team at International Rectifier in Korea, developing new businesses in telecommunication, consumer electronics, and automotive. At Samsung Ventures he has invested in SeaMicro (acquired by AMD), SolidFire, and Tilera in addition to Raydiance. Jay received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley and MBA from the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell.


Jeff Safchik

Managing Director, Greenstreet Partners

As a result of his diversified financial background, Jeffrey has more than 30 years of experience involving acquisitions, strategic planning, and asset management involving a diversified set of industries. Jeffrey is the Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer of Greenstreet Partners. He is also a founder of Greenstreet Real Estate Partners, a company engaged in the business of real estate investment, and is the Chairman of their Investment and Advisory Committees. He is also the Chief Financial Officer for K1 Ventures, Ltd, a publicly listed investment company traded on the Singapore Stock Exchange. Jeffrey is the Chairman and CEO of Propco Holdings, a privately held portfolio of education related real estate properties. He also serves as a director of K1 and Knowledge Universe Education LLP, Long Haul Holding Corp and a director and member of the KUE Management, Inc. audit committee and Knowledge Schools, Inc. Executive Committee. He is an active member of a number of civic and charitable institutions in Miami, Florida, and is the Chairman of the University of Miami, Department of Pediatrics Children’s Council, as well as a trustee of the Green Family Foundation. Jeffrey graduated with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting from Pace University. He also obtained a Masters degree in Taxation from St. John’s University, New York. Prior to entering the private sector, Jeffrey was licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in the States of New York and Florida. During the course of his career, he attended advanced finance and real estate courses at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and New York University
